Pacifica Locals
It’s different from every other place. It’s surrounded by spectacular beauty: the mountains, the sand, the ocean. When I go to another city, it’s not the same. The scenery I love is obviously absent.
When I come up the hill from Daly City, I know I’m about to see the most magnificent view.
The road lurches out to greet the sea. The western edge of Pacifica opens up. You see the mountains, the ocean, sometimes a sunset glowing on the water, or fog sitting on the horizon deciding whether it’s going to roll in for the night. It still evokes a verbal exclamation, especially on a sunny day when the ocean sparkles in the sun like glitter.
It’s a little slower here than the Peninsula. The sidewalks roll up at 9 pm — not kidding. It was funny when Nation’s opened in Linda Mar and stayed open until 10. Now that La Playa’s a couple doors down, the shopping center’s gotten a bit livelier at night. But overall, nights are quiet. Quiet enough to hear the owls, the coyotes, and occasionally a cougar calling a mate.
Each part of town has its own weather and its own feel. I’m writing up the neighborhoods one at a time.
